Nigerian musician, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, his arguably one of the hottestNigerian musical entertainers. Now at the ripe age of 24, Wizkid recorded his first album when he was only 11 years old. He was then known as Lil’ Prinz, and shortly after, changed his moniker to Wizkid. His debut album was recorded and produced by OJB Jezreel, a popular producer well-known in the Nigerian community. He has worked with such top musical acts as Ikechukwu and Naeto C.
His songs begun to play repetitiously on the radio since 2006, and his first big break came in 2009, when he collaborated with Nigerian rapper MCs-MI Abaga. They created the popular track “Fat Money Fast Cars,” and the track drew quite a bit of attention to Wizkid’s one-of-a-kind style and voice. Not only is Wizkid an incredible performer, he has also written songs for other established musical artists, and signed a multi-million Naira deal in 2009 with EME owned by Banky W.
In 2010, Wizkid found himself with multiple chart-topping hits with “Don’t Dull,” “Tease Me,” “Holla at your Boy,” among several others. He also released his solo album, Superstar in 2011, and has performed dozens of sold-out concerts in Nigeria, UK, and the US. He has won several awards, including 2012’s BET Award for Best African Performance and at 2013’s Ghana Music Awards, received the prize for African Artist of the Year. He is due to release an album later this year.
