Mary J. Blige drops an official single from her upcoming LP.

Mary J. Blige steps away the upbeat music that populated the majority of her Think Like A Man Too soundtrack and returns to heartfelt R&B on “Whole Damn Year.” The first official single from The London Sessions, the track finds Mary pouring her heart out after a rough break-up.

According to Mary, the concept behind The London Sessions “was to become part of London… To make records from the London-scene perspective. The music is free over here the way it used to be in the States. Artists are just free to do what they love. Listening to the radio you can hear the freedom. The music is living and breathing – you can hear that from Adele’s last album. It was massive – a big deal. But she did what she loved.”

Rodney Jerkins revealed that a film crew is making a documentary of Blige’s creative process in London to coincide with the album’s release.

Quotable Lyrics:

See, winter took most of my heart
And spring punched me right in the stomach
Summer came lookin’ for blood
And by autumn I was left with nothing
